Today’s article is about the best blackhead removal face masks that are suggested by most beauty professionals and dermatologists. I want to start off by saying that it’s pretty natural to get blackheads here and there. It’s easily treatable by these face masks and taking a little extra care of your skin.
Some people make the biggest mistake by popping them. They do so in order to get rid of blackheads, but the result is the complete opposite of their expectation – popped blackheads leave dark spots and scars. You must know that blackhead is a temporary skin concern but dark spots or scars can be permanent. So, stop messing with your blackheads.
I’ll take you through all of the masks which are meant for all skin types and budgets. So, keep on reading…

Giovanni Purifying Facial Mask
The Giovanni Purifying Facial Mask has all-natural ingredients, including activated charcoal, volcanic ash, acai berry, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, and goji berry that are effective to make your skin clean, fresh, and bright. Dermatologically tested, this detox facial mask is meant for all skin types. However, I highly recommend it for congested or oily skin, owing to its combination of activated charcoal and volcanic ash as this can be too drying for dry skin people.
Let me take you through the benefits of each ingredient that will tell you how effective this product is. Volcanic ash is a natural sebum absorber that provides a mattifying look. Activated charcoal is a natural purifier that helps pull blackheads, dirt, and impurities. Acai and Goji berry extracts provide antioxidant support to the skin cells to withstand free radicals. Aloe Vera and Vitamin E are known for hydrating skin.
Packaged in a tube with a tight flip-top cap, there is no chance of product leakage that makes it travel-friendly. Simply stash it into your hand luggage and you’re good to go.
Reasons to Buy it
- Has volcanic ash and activated charcoal

GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Activated Charcoal Treatment
Ideal for oily and acne-prone skin, the GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Activated Charcoal Treatment is a combination of 6 exfoliation acids. These acids work to unclog the pores and minimize their appearance. Also, they help in loosening your dead skin cells for proper cleansing. It has activated charcoal that pulls out impurities and toxins from the pores.
I noticed that it provides me an amazing mattifying look which I didn’t get from any of the above face masks. Whether you’re men or women, it can be part of your collection of skincare products.
This product claims that it treats blemishes and other skin imperfections, which I think is true to some extent. This is because I had some blemishes on my forehead but now, they’re faded away (not completely but there is a difference between after and before condition).
In my opinion, its packaging could have been better. The tub doesn’t have any secondary lid (only top lid is provided) as it increases the chances of contamination. But that’s not a big issue for me. Amazon’s choice!
Reasons to Buy it
- For men and women
- Treats common skin problems
- Ideal for oily and acne-prone skin
- Helps remove blackheads
- Helps reduce redness and irritation
- Works to refine pores
- Provides a mattifying effect
A good face mask will unclog your pores and take off all blackheads, letting your skin breathe properly. However, you need to always consider your skin type and know which type of mask suits you the best.
I’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions by people regarding the best face masks for blackhead removal. Hopefully, my answers will be helpful to you.
What are blackheads?
Blackheads are a form of comedo. A clogged hair follicle in your skin is known as comedo. An open comedo is termed as a blackhead while a closed one is known as a whitehead.
When the hair follicles are plugged, oxygen in the air reacts with the dead skin cells that turn the pores black, forming blackheads. Many times people confuse this reaction (of oxygen with dead skin cells) with trapped dirt, but there is no link between the formation of blackheads and cleanliness of the skin.
Blackheads usually appear on the face, neck, back, chest, shoulders, and arms as these body parts have more hair follicles.
What causes blackheads?
The main cause of blackheads is the plugging of hair follicles but, there are several factors that can increase the chances of forming blackheads. They are listed below:
- Hormonal changes
- Pore blockage by cosmetics
- Excessive sweating
- Shaving that opens the hair follicle
- Humid environment
- Health conditions- stress, PMS, PCOS
- Being on steroid-based medicines
What is a blackhead removal face mask?
A blackhead removal mask is usually a thick paste that is made of purifying ingredients such as charcoal, volcanic ash, dead sea minerals, kaolin clay, and more. However, these days sheet masks are also available in the market. Since the excess production of sebum is an underlying cause of blackhead formation, these ingredients absorb the extra oil in the skin. They are powerful enough to pull out even the stubborn blackheads.
Generally, blackhead removal masks come in a peel-off form. You have to first wash your skin with a mild face wash first and then apply a peel-off mask for blackheads on the areas where you’ve blackheads. Allow it to dry completely and then peel it off in an upward direction to get rid of blackheads.
Does blackhead removal mask work?
Yes, a good blackhead removal mask performs efficiently- removing blackheads without pain.
There are different types of blackhead removal masks in the market that work differently to do the same job. There are peel-off blackhead masks that are super-easy to use and are most preferred ones. Other types include self-heating face masks that warm themselves on contact with water to open your skin pores wide enough to pull out blackheads. There are clay or mud masks that need to be applied using brush. These days people are trying out hydrogel and sheet masks to get rid of blackheads.
Of all the above-mentioned blackhead mask types, peel-off masks are demanded the most as they actually work. You just have to select right peel-off masks for your skin type and that’s all you need to enjoy a blackhead-free and smooth skin.
Why you should not squeeze your blackheads?
You may be tempted to squeeze your blackheads for clearer skin. Their visibility on the skin calls for removal, but you should never squeeze them for whatever reason. This can invite permanent skin issues. There are reasons why you should not squeeze them:
- Blackheads can be stubborn and hard to remove. It might happen that the blackhead you were trying to squeeze out doesn’t come out. Excess pressure while squeezing can irritate your skin badly and even leave your pores widely open permanently. If you’ve deep blackheads that aren’t possible to remove using blackhead facial masks then consult a dermatologist for the right advice.
- Blackhead contains bacteria and when you try to squeeze it out, it releases bacteria too which can spread to the surrounding skin. Even if you’re happy to squeeze one or two blackheads, you’re inviting more. Therefore, use top-rated blackhead removal masks and scrubs.
Instead of prodding your blackheads, use any of the above-listed blackhead removal masks that will also give you healthy-looking skin.
